Jewelry for the Garden |
| Sometimes I talk to the log, and sometimes the log talks to me. These logs had no interest in becoming penguins. There's a sketchbook full of possibilities. (More Carvings). The carvings on these pages don't fit into any larger category; I refer to them as "fantasy" because they're somewhere in the gap between realism and abstract. |

Sooner or later, every one who works in garden art has to confront the flamingo problem, and I thought the 2004 Studio Tour was the perfect opportunity. I’d carved a tabletop pair before, but they weren’t much fun. An unexpected log from the local health department provided wood I could play with, so I carved these birds for the Tour opening show. They weigh 160# and 180#, respectively. (The smaller of the two has been sold--the one in the center picture below.) |
